A Glimpse Inside My Head

Every year, during the sefirah I have a song, or sometimes an entire CD playing in my head, over and over.
(Little kite tell me, for I can not fly)

Sometimes I wonder if there is some way to chose the song. Because some songs are much better to listen to continuously than others.
(I'm a hippopotamus, from my top to my bottom-us)

I mean, if you have to listen to one song straight through the sefirah, it should be an enjoyable song.
(Why does everybody make so much fun of me, don't they know how it hurts me so?)

So this year, as I listen to the songs of journeys 1, 2, 3, and 4, over and over and over, I wonder if I am glad about this turn of events.
(...and my '67 buick has still seen better days...)

Oh, and I'm listening to marvelous middos machine too, courtesy of spending chol hamoed with the grand kids.
(Middos are the way we act and how we think and feel, the Torah shows us just what we should do)

Those songs are the ones that really make me realize what a genius Abie Rottenberg is. I seriously like the values they teach.
(I ignored your advice, now I'm paying the price, I went with all of my kids...to a store!)

But all in all, I think I am lucky. I don't remember ever getting to listen to so many songs in one sefirah.
(Never mind the calories bring on the table Viennese, the next morning they can start to watch their weight!)

So I sit here, trying to lull myself to sleep with one of the slow songs from journeys 3.
(I lovingly hid it, deep inside my drawer, where it would be, safe as can be...)

But it isn't working. Instead, I keep hearing the fast songs.
(But I just happen to be a woman, and it's that time of year again)

So I press skip on my internal music player, and I to onto the next song. Now, I hear the very distinct voice of Shwekey singing...
(Mama Rochel cry, for us again, won't you shed a tear, for your dear children)

Skip.
(and I was the one, who squished your hat)

Skip.
(he wears a fur hat when it's hamsin outside)

Skip.
(Do you know the joy of friendship, of caring and of love? Somehow I get the feeling that you do)

Skip.
(Thats why Hashem gave is two lips to keep our mouths shut tight)

Skip.
(But now they call him chaim'l, and on shabbos he wears a streimel)

Skip.
(A fantastic amazing miracle)

Skip.
(The Torah says be humble, in everything you do. Of you're strong of tall or beautiful, it's not because of you.)

Skip.
(and of our mouths were filled with song, like the vast and mighty sea)

Skip.
(it's what I believe...Ani Ma'amin!)

Skip.
(Do you think it's fair, to even us the score? The Torah says Nekamah's wrong and always leads to more!)

Skip.
(We're gonna spend the day together with the holy one)

I have this weird memory for these things. I know all of the words, although sometimes I get these random snippets into my head.
(And he'd say Riboinoi Shel Oilam, could have a little bite to eat, cause you sustain all mankind...)

I'll tell you the torturous thing though. Sometimes, I get stuck. I simply can NOT remember the next word in the song. On a normal day, I'd turn on the song, and skip straight to the part that I am up to. But during sefirah, I can't do that.
(But dear Malach'l no, please don't make me go, I'm not ready to go with you, where you'll take me I don't know...)

So when it happens, I do the next best thing, which is skip to the next song in my head.
(The Rabbi sent Yankel to learn in yeshivah, they all thought he'd lost his sanity)

And then, when I exhaust my playlist, we go back to the beginning and start again.
(Step on board, take your ticket, no two are the same)

Am I the I the only one who has an internal playlist that will not shut off, the entire sefirah?
(They danced round and round in circles, as if the world had done no wrong)

So much for my quiet...
(You gotta be neat, you gotta be clean, let mommy take a break from her washing machine)

TB- er, the difference is that during the year I can change the playlist in my head by playing a different song. Now I can't... I'm stick till lag beomer.

Insp- have you heard these songs ever?

WYNI- it's funny you say that, cuz just after I published that post my sister asked what I drank tonight cuz apparently I was in a weird mood...
But why do you say it's messed up?
Um, on second thoughts, I can see what your saying...Cept what you don't realize, is that I actually wrote the song that was in my head as I types each line. And I wonder why I couldn't sleep... ;-)

CMF- [evil cackle] that was the point you know. :-P
Maybe you can help me out- do you remember how little neshamela starts? I can't remember, and the more I think about it the more my head hurts. I am not gonna make it to lag beomer this way...

Inspired said...

Where do you think I'm coming from? Yes, I know a lot of them.

And btw little neshamela starts: come with me little neshamah... Now this song is gonna stay in my head for the rest of the night:p

Thinking- Thanks. I don't get it. What did you misread?

Insp- oops. Sorry, I wasn't sure what the story with english songs is...
I thought thats how it started, but the tune is just not working out right in my head. Sigh. This is going to be a long couple of weeks...

:roll eyes: Well maybe, not in my circles;)

you bet! i sure do have it. but most of the time it's only this one song... ( i ran a round the corner and i ran a round the block, i ran right into the bakery shop...) huh!

Something Different said...

Insp- So I wasn't crazy...?

Anon- Oh. My. Goodness. If I am going to get that song stuck in my head now, you will be very lucky to be anonymous! :-P

Inspired said...

Don't know. I never came across such a person, but I'm sure they exist...

To add to your play list, ever heard of this one? matchmaker, matchmaker make me a match, find me a fine... It's on repeat one in my head now:P

Insp- here I was, all proud that I had an entire post that mentioned nothing at all about shidduchim and the like, and you had to go spoiling it? :-p

Inspired said...

Sorry, forget about my comment.

Here you go:
Congratulations for an entire post that's not mentioning anything about shidduchim!

Better??:p

lol!
i had "the athiest convention in LA" stuck in my head over shabbos, but what exactly did Peter yell when the plane went down? it's been really irking me, and i don't have oorah's shmorg cd.

grand kids = grandkids, as in grandchildren - did a double take - is there something here i should know about? ;)

Something Different said...

Insp-much better. :-)

Thinking- "mercy father"
No, I just think of them as my mother's grandkids. They aren't my siblings kids, my nieces and nephews or even my fathers grandkids. They are my mom's grandkids. It's hard to explain.....

well? is it stuck i your head already? (i ran around the corner and i ran around the block and i ran right into the bakery shop...)

wow, I haven't heard of so many of these songs? what albums are they from?

those were tons of songs! you are really cute.

I just have once in a while songs in my head. Some from Miami or other kids choirs that I'm hearing all the time.

When my playlist played straight I was able to tell what the next song would be, but then I put it on random so it shouldn't go in order, so any song that pops up is a surprise, although usually by the beginning music I get to tell what it is.

Anon- (please come up with a name? I don't like anonymousness...) No, it's not, luckily for you. But as I read your second comment, I starting singing "once I ate an elephant and then I ate a giraffe..." So if the preschool songs replace journeys I'll officially be mad at you. ;-)

JSB- they are all from journeys and marvelous middos machine. And believe it or not, they were actually flitting in and out of my head the way I wrote them. (!)

thinking... said...

sorry! i thought you meant grand kids, like sarcastically, having a totally grand time...

whatever :)

Something Different said...

Thinking- haha no I love them...fir the first week or so...then they start getting annoying (and probably too much bubby spoiling) but it's really my fault. I should have been more clear.

i love singing journey's songs. when i was little i used to listen to a song over and over and then i knew all the lyrics. but i never listened to Middos Machine

...can you see distant oceans and mountains so high?...
...but the ride is not as lonely as it used to be, cuz i've got my wife and seven kids along with me...
...to watch their weight, to watch their weight...
...and i vowed i would keep it forever and ever...
...when every bone in my body starts shaking and i'm breaking out in cold, cold sweat...
...if you raise your sweet voice now as then the day will come...
...he looks and sounds different, meod hasidi...
...then we are not so different, we are very much the same...
...cuz their buried faith ignited, while flying on United...
...from the one and only Hashem...
...and our tongues were ocean waves, to sing a joyous melody...
...father please tell me, i'm asking of you...
...say a special blessing, on a cup that's filled with wine...
...with your goodness and your grace and right on cue i'd come on out...
...let me stay right where i am there's so much more i need to do...
...he'll be back within a week for certain...
...you'll soon be going for a ride there's nowhere to run, no place to hide...
...from evening until morning, filling up the shul with song...
...

FCG- in gee thanks. I was just getting myself to stop singing those songs, but I read your comment and that was it. Thanks to you, I just sat through a meeting at work, with every one of those songs running through my head. :-O
